• She told me it would eat fruit and nuts.
        Another day our pet canary died.  I called Information Please and told her the sad story.  “Why did my bird have to die at the bottom of the cage?  He sang so beautifully and brought joy to my family.  Why?”
        She certainly felt my deep concern.  “Paul, always remember that there are other worlds to sing in.”
        That made me feel better.
        Another time, I asked the now familiar voice, “How do you spell fix?”
        “Fix something?  F-I-X.”
        All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest.  Then, when I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston.  I missed my old friend very much.  Information Please was in that old wooden box back home; I had no interest in trying the phone in our new house.
