- Tick, tick, tick. We all need to eat, and farmers around the world are producing huge amounts of food. Every second, over 500 hamburgers are eaten in just one of the world's major fast-food chains. In fact, we make enough to feed everyone on the planet. However, every second, 0.3 people around the world starve to death. To make things worse, we waste a lot of the food we produce. Just in Japan, 2,540 rice balls' worth of food is thrown away every second.
